Post Secret

I've been an advid Post Secret check for almost a year now. I think its a really cool way to just say something that no one you know will judge you for and its a way to feel connected because sometimes people even reply saying it was thier secret for the longest time. One day, maybe soon maybe later I want to be able to send a secret to post secret. I'll have to think about a real one, not just one to say I sent one in, a secret no one else knows.
I have 2 finals left, Thursday and Friday, then its time to go home and relax or atleast do things I want to do. Like going to the Indiana Museum of Art with Dusty on Saturday, a slumber party with my fwiends from home on Monday night and then breakfast and Childrens Museum in the morning.
I sent out my Christmas card today so look for yours in the mail!

Let me explain

I have a boyfriend and yes he is cute, charming, really good to me, supportive, and loving. He also provides a different perspective to my life. There are so many times when he says something and I think "oh yeah" and it makes me smile. Or those times when most girls fish for compliments (which i TRY not to do) but he fills in the blank with something I never thought he would say and its a comment I wasn't expecting which makes it so special.
Its just nice to have someone who gets you. We get it ya know? I dont know, but I think I found the secret to the fountain of youth... keep someone around who keeps you laughing, smiling, giggling like 5th graders, makes you feel special and that you deserve all of it, makes you want to wake up in the morning and strive to do more and that loves you and supports you every step of the way.

.....and have a ornery cat. haha

7 down 1 to go

So I've been here at BSU for 7 semesters. Scary thing is, I've only got one more left. Woah, when I write that and say it out loud my heart begins to beat a little faster and that uneasy "WHAT NEXT" feeling takes over my stomach. Thats also what everyone wants to know. "Sarah, what are you going to do next?" "DISNEYWORLD!"....yeah right.
Really though? What am I going to do next? So many of my colleagues who graduated last year who were much stronger candidates than myself (I think so anyways) are taking internship level positions and some are even just taking anything they can get. Woof!
So if anyone knows someone in the public relations/media relations/event planning/promotions industry let me know. I've got five months left to get it together. Not that I can't move back home, I just dont want to.

I've got two take home finals to finish, one is already half done. Next week I have one project due and two finals. Then I am DONE!!

If you're happy, I'm happy!

LONDON -- When you're smiling, the whole world really does smile with you.

A paper being published today in a British medical journal concludes that happiness is contagious -- and that people pass on their good cheer even to total strangers.

American researchers who tracked more than 4,700 people in Framingham, Mass., as part of a 20-year heart study also found the transferred happiness is good for up to a year.

"Happiness is like a stampede," said Nicholas Christakis, a professor in Harvard University's sociology department and co-author of the study. "Whether you're happy depends not just on your own actions and behaviors and thoughts, but on those of people you don't even know."

Although the study is another sign of the power of social networks, it ran through 2003, before the rise of social networking Web sites such as Friendster, MySpace and Facebook. Christakis couldn't say for sure whether the effect works online.

"This type of technology enhances your contact with friends, so it should support the kind of emotional contagion we observed," he said.

For this study, published in the British journal BMJ, Christakis and co-author James Fowler, of the University of California-San Diego, examined questionnaires that asked people to measure their happiness. They found distinct happy and unhappy clusters significantly bigger than would be expected by chance.

Happy people tended to be at the center of social networks and had many friends who were also happy. Having friends or siblings nearby increased people's chances of being upbeat. Happiness spread outward by three degrees, to the friends of friends of friends.

Happy spouses helped, too, but not as much as happy friends of the same gender. Experts think people, particularly women, take emotional cues from those who look like them.

Christakis and Fowler estimate that each happy friend boosts your own chances of being happy by 9 percent. Having grumpy friends decreases it by about 7 percent.

But it also turns out that misery doesn't love company: Happiness seemed to spread more consistently than unhappiness. But that doesn't mean you should drop your gloomy friends.

"Every friend increases the probability that you're at the center of a network, which means you are more eligible to get a wave of happiness," Fowler said.

Being happy also brings other benefits, including a protective effect on your immune system so that you produce fewer stress hormones, said Andrew Steptoe, a psychology professor at University College London who was not involved with the study.

But you shouldn't assume you can make yourself happy just by making the right friends.

"To say you can manipulate who your friends are to make yourself happier would be going too far," said Stanley Wasserman, an Indiana University statistician who studies social networks.

The study was conducted in a single community, so it would take more research to confirm its findings. But in a time of economic gloom, it also suggested some heartening news about money and happiness.

According to the research, an extra chunk of money increases your odds of being happy only marginally -- notably less than the odds of being happier if you have a happy friend.

"You can save your money," Christakis said. "Being around happy people is better."

Thankful

I wish I took more time to reflect on what I am thankful for more often. Its seems that we only think about all the blessings in our lives around the holiday (I know thats how I am). So what exactly am I thankful for?...
My FAMILY- Skip, LeAnne, Brian, and Cory. They are a complete mess but still my family. Going home wouldn't be going home without them. I dont think I would fit in with anyone else's family as well as I fit into mine. haha
My BOYFRIEND- What to say?...He keeps me on my toes, makes me think and run, keeps me entertained every time we are together. In summary, hes perfect for me and I'd like to keep him. :)
My FRIENDS- We may not see each other as often or get to spend as much time together as we would like but I love each and everyone of you the same. Its so nice to come home and get to see you and pick up as if we never left.
My ROOMMATES- Old and New. I dont think I'd be the same person without you. I've learned things from each and every one of you. It would take me forever to lay it all out but I am so thankful for all of you, my 905 family and my 1110 North St family :)
BALOO- I love the heck out of this cat. Its my first cat and I've wanted one since I could talk. He lets me hold him, squeeze him, put penguin costumes on him, he is such a good sport. If he ever dies I want someone to just replace him and not tell me because I will be devastated.
My EXTENDED FAMILY- Grammy & Papa, Grandma and Grandpa, and all of my cousins and aunts and uncles. I may not see some of you very often but you are still a part of me and I love you!
My EDUCATION- I'm thankful that I have all these opportunities to learn more and become a better person. I'm graduating soon but that doesn't mean that my education is ending.
My JOB- No matter how much I complain I'm extremely happy to have my on campus job and my Outback job. They keep me busy and teach me time management and give me money to survive.
MUSIC
FOOD
GMAIL (haha)
WINE
...and many others :)
